Completely against my principle, I crawl behind my laptop on a Saturday afternoon. The reason for this is a boy of 13 years old. He lives in our Children's Home Goeie Hoop and tried this morning to "kill" his father, who came to visit, with a hockey stick. Fortunately it ended well! But he's pretty upset ... if I want to come. I know the scars on his body. Inflicted by his parents. Knife stabs… As I step into the room in which he is waiting for me, I see how the muscles of his body are tense. No emotion on his face. I reflect and try ... tears come ... I reflect and follow his tears with my finger from his eye to his heart .... my finger lingers there ... he is smart and knows what I mean. The story comes out. His addicted parents took their frustration out on him. Beaten ... stabbing, his knee smashed with a stone while he was sleeping, beaten black and blue ... his dearest possession, a found phone ('Nokia with cover') taken away by his parents and sold to buy wine ... A phone on which he played games, "to keep myself out of that trouble," as he himself said. It bothers him… how unjust. How hard to forgive his parents. It bothers him that he does not have 1 sponsor and most of the other children at Goeie Hoop do. He never receives gifts in the mail… The lack of that phone with games is terribly high to him. I point to a length of 10cm with my fingers and tell him that he might find that phone so important, but that in God's eyes it is only 1mm important. But… I also explain to him that we can specifically ask God for something. We do not receive because we do not ask, the Bible says. I believe God can use people to get him back on a similar computer game. I ask if he wants to pray for forgiveness, for sponsors, and for a plan for his future… He agrees… .after the Amen, he starts over on that phone… .it bothers him sooooo! I say that he must assume from an old, wise woman of 44 years old that it doesn't work that way. That things only work if "let us do this in God sy hande" ... That's how it works, 100% sure, "high 5" with and for a 13 year old boy! Also give him a "high 5" by becoming a sponsor and making him feel that he is not alone! He needs you!
